Age friendly strategies
There has been a significant interest in the development of age friendly policies among local government bodies. This reflects a national strategy published by the Department (Ministry) of Health which set out a vision for an age-friendly society through the achievement of four national goals (participation, health, security and research). Though Ireland has a younger age profile compared to many EU Member States, the percentage of older people (defined as age 55 and above) in the population is increasing and this is prompting the government along with local government organisations to put in place policies, initiatives and structures to help older people to live more inclusive lives. TMA have carried out studies in relation to the development of assistive and remote technologies for an ageing population and more recently have been working with a local government organisation to review its age friendly strategy.
